Gone Girl (2014) Movie Review
I'm doing a brief review from the vault here. I'm not sure I can tolerate what this movie did to my psyche at the time or from remembrance, but since I'm just blogging here I want to get down to it. First I'll review the style. Then I'll get into content which I was much more impressed with.
The film itself is one of many Tom Clancy stealth lensed B-Movie scan cam radar junkyard scouter scope cinematography movies that the original Cloverfield inspired just to irritate your headache from Blair witch project. At least they knew to not joggle a first person viewpoint along with a coded rim outside of every midshot. The tone reflects nausea as much as the sleekness of the Matrix series. Ushering Gone Girl into a cluttered cabinet full of latter day Bourne Identity Films.
The themes clearly express a cultural trend of sabotage through hysterical actions. Furthermore; a statement against marriage is made. Perhaps symbols of power that enable free will superceding the importance of traditional forms of indoctrination is something to be derived as well. Leverage to change and achieve what's desired over absolute loyalty when love is lost.
On the other hand, Gone Girl is both terrifying and sad. The movie exageratively demonstrates the crude and harsh consequences of infidelities and adultery. While it bashes the very notion of an ill-wed marriage as a scam. The entertaining and thrill driven plot pumps it's way to a climax that one is sure to fall for. Hold on to your horses and please do not rush into a psychotic marriage anytime soon without seeing Gone Girl.
